Upskilling the Medical Workforce: Opportunities in Health Innovation

The Committee on Small Business will meet for a hearing titled, “Upskilling the Medical Workforce: Opportunities in Health Innovation.” The hearing is scheduled to begin at 11:30 A.M. on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 in Room 2360 of the Rayburn House Office Building. It is predicted that America faces a doctor shortage upwards of 100,000 doctors by 2030, which could disproportionately affect rural and underserved communities. Beyond training more doctors, opportunities in innovative healthcare practices offers another method to proactively address the shortage. Telehealth and HealthIT have the potential to help many small medical practices manage patient information, be more efficient, and provide the most effective treatment. This hearing will analyze ways the health care workforce can be trained to leverage these new technologies to lower costs, incentivize start-ups, and provide quality care.
