Chairwoman Velázquez on LGBTQ Pride Month
Washington,
June 3, 2019
Washington, D.C.— Today, House Small Business Committee Chairwoman Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) issued the following statement in honor of June as LGBTQ Pride Month. “In communities across this country, LGBTQ Americans are our neighbors, friends, family, and proud small business owners. They enrich our Main Streets, fuel our economy, and defy the limits of innovation. This Pride Month, it’s clear that embracing the vibrant diversity of the LGBTQ community isn’t just the morally right thing to do—it’s also good for business. “The collective economic power of LGBTQ Americans is undeniable, with LGBTQ-owned businesses contributing nearly $2 trillion to our economy and creating good jobs along the way. Yet, despite this success, too many in the LGBTQ community remain sidelined and silenced simply because of who they are or whom they love. “That is why House Democrats passed the historic Equality Act to place a once and for all ban on discrimination against LGBTQ Americans. As I hold the gavel, I’ll continue to ensure that LGBTQ entrepreneurs have a seat at the table as we work to unlock access to capital and strengthen opportunities for America’s diverse small business sector.” ### |
