Chairwoman Velázquez Invites Big Tech Companies to Testify

Sends Formal Invitations to Amazon, Google, Facebook, Apple

Washington, D.C.— Today, House Small Business Committee Chairwoman Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) sent formal invitations to four of the world’s largest tech companies requesting their appearance at a November hearing on how small businesses are faring in the landscapes of e-commerce and internet traffic.

“It is no secret that big tech platforms have grown exponentially in the digital era, altering the ways American consumers buy products and shifting many traditional business models,” said Chairwoman Velázquez. “Given this, I believe it is appropriate and necessary to bring big tech companies and small businesses to the table to discuss how the rise in online retail and digital platforms is shaping the playing field for America’s small firms. I look forward to the hearing and hope to confirm the presence of Amazon, Google, Facebook, and Apple in the coming weeks.”

Chairwoman Velázquez has requested the big tech companies respond to the invitations by October 31, 2019. More information about the hearing will be forthcoming.
