Chairwoman Velázquez on Earth Day

Washington, D.C.— Today, House Small Business Committee Chairwoman Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) issued the following statement recognizing Earth Day:

“This Earth Day, it’s more important than ever to celebrate the natural gifts our planet grants us and recommit ourselves to environmental protection. Since last Earth Day, we’ve continued to see the devastating effects of climate change whether it be through increasing global temperatures, more extreme natural disasters, or rising sea levels.

“Climate change affects all of us, and everyone will have to play a part in combating the climate crisis. On my committee, we are working to empower the small businesses at the forefront of the clean energy economy. Across the country, small businesses are researching, manufacturing, and supplying energy-efficient products that will reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and lessen our carbon footprint.

“During the 117th Congress, the Small Business Committee will hold hearings that examine the role these businesses play in creating a greener economy and work to promote policies that support them.”

In honor of Earth Day, Chairwoman Velázquez has released a factsheet on the impact of small firms in the green economy. You can find it here
