House Approves One Year SBIR and STTR Extension

WASHINGTON – Today, the House of Representatives voted to advance a bipartisan bill to extend the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs through the fiscal year.

For over forty years, these initiatives have enabled entrepreneurs to transform bold ideas into cutting-edge technologies while delivering significant value for taxpayers. Without Congressional action, the programs are scheduled to expire at the end of September.

“The SBIR and STTR programs empower small businesses to push the boundaries of science and technology while strengthening America’s economy and security,” said Ranking Member Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY). “Letting these programs expire would jeopardize progress and derail promising research. This extension protects innovators, gives businesses the stability they need, and keeps us on track toward a durable bipartisan reauthorization. This vote was an important first step, now the Senate must act swiftly and pass this measure to prevent any disruption that would be a disaster for the small firms and researchers that depend on these programs.”
