Chairwoman Velázquez on Selection of Jovita Carranza to Lead SBA

Washington, D.C.— Today, House Small Business Committee Chairwoman Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) issued the following statement regarding reports that President Trump plans to nominate Jovita Carranza as Administrator of the Small Business Administration (SBA):

“The Small Business Administration plays a crucial role in helping America’s Main Street businesses secure affordable financing, access the federal procurement marketplace, and recover after a natural disaster. Importantly, it is the only federal agency responsible for focusing on the needs of small businesses in every facet of the process, making it essential to the well-being of our economy and nation’s prosperity.

“I welcome Ms. Carranza’s nomination to the position and the opportunity to review her previous tenure as Deputy Administrator at the agency. I look forward to closely monitoring the Senate’s confirmation process to ensure the agency’s leadership and management is strong. America’s over 30 million small businesses deserve the SBA to be fully operational, and I look forward to continuing our Committee’s responsibility of conducting oversight and advancing the issues important to our nation’s diverse small business sector.”
