Press Releases
Velázquez on Harvey and SBA
Washington, DC,
September 5, 2017
Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY), the Ranking Democrat on the House Small Business Committee, released the following statement regarding $450 million in funding for the Small Business Administration (SBA) included in the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations for Hurricane Harvey:
“I am pleased the Chairman of the Appropriations Committee and Ranking Member Lowey have proposed significant resources so SBA may provide assistance to business owners, homeowners and renters affected by Harvey. This significant allocation is the appropriate response given the magnitude of this disaster. I look forward to seeing Congress swiftly pass this bill and approve these funds.
“After previous catastrophes like Katrina and Sandy, the Small Business Committee has worked in a bipartisan manner to improve the SBA’s disaster lending functions. It is my hope that these changes will help these programs run efficiently. We will be keeping a close watch to see that resources and assistance are reaching business owners and other borrowers in a timely manner.”
