Chairwoman Velázquez Reacts to Ongoing Trade Hearings on Trump Tariffs
Washington,
June 18, 2019
Washington, D.C.— Today, House Small Business Committee Chairwoman Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) issued the following statement as small businesses shared their concerns over President Trump’s trade war with China in written comments and during hearings before the Office of the United States Trade Representative: “Once again, small businesses are telling this Administration what we have been hearing since this trade war began—recklessly increasing tariffs on a top trading partner is making it harder for our small businesses to survive. “Because of the President’s trade war with China, we are hearing heartbreaking stories of small firms and farmers who can no longer afford to fill their supply chains, pay for legal counsel, or even pay their employees. Make no mistake, these tariffs are a tax, and one that is currently falling to American businesses and consumers. “After eleven failed rounds of negotiations between this Administration and China, enough is enough. The President must stop conducting trade policy through Twitter and instead come to the table to reach a deal that provides our small businesses with the economic stability and prosperity they deserve.”
