Washington, D.C.— Today, House Small Business Committee Chairwoman Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) issued the following statement after the Senate voted to confirm Jovita Carranza as Administrator of the Small Business Administration (SBA):
“The Small Business Administration is the nation’s only federal agency dedicated solely to helping America’s entrepreneurs launch businesses and grow. In addition to helping Main Street businesses secure affordable loans and government contracts, the SBA plays a critical role in disaster assistance. As natural disasters ranging from wildfires to earthquakes ravish our communities, strong agency leadership is required to help quickly disperse aid to Americans in need.
“For too many months, key leadership positions at SBA have been left vacant, undermining the agency’s efficiency and success. Administrator Carranza’s confirmation is a positive step towards addressing this issue as America’s 30 million small businesses deserve the SBA to be fully operational.
“As Chairwoman of the House Small Business Committee, I will be inviting Administrator Carranza to testify in front of our members and look forward to hearing more about her plans to lead the agency.”
