WASHINGTON —The Government Accountability Office (GAO) released a report examining DOGE teams’ access to federal agency systems and the safeguards agencies put in place to protect sensitive information.
As part of its review, GAO sought information from the Small Business Administration about which systems DOGE team members had access to and what controls were in place to protect those systems and data. SBA did not provide the requested information despite repeated efforts by GAO to obtain it.
“SBA’s refusal to provide GAO with basic information about DOGE’s access to agency systems is deeply troubling,” said Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez, Ranking Member of the House Small Business Committee. “The federal government has a responsibility to safeguard the personally identifiable information of our nation’s small business owners. Congress and the public have a right to know who had access to that sensitive information and whether proper safeguards were in place. This lack of cooperation is unprecedented. Independent oversight only works when agencies cooperate with it. SBA needs to stop stonewalling GAO and provide the answers America’s small businesses deserve.”
