Chairwoman Velázquez on December Jobs Report

Washington, D.C.— Today, House Small Business Committee Chairwoman Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) issued the following statement after the Labor Department released its December jobs statement:

“December’s weak jobs report captures the difficulties that plagued our job creators and small businesses in 2019 under President Trump’s watch. In small business-heavy sectors such as manufacturing, jobs are declining due to this Administration’s erratic trade policies. Meanwhile, small businesses in dozens of other industries are still trapped in a ‘wait-and-see’ attitude as trade negotiations with China continue, and President Trump threatens new tariffs on the European Union.

“America’s hardworking small business owners deserve policies that will encourage them to invest, hire, and grow. Today’s jobs report reinforces that this Administration is failing to address their needs.”
