Velazquez Announces Small Business Subcommittee Chairs

Washington, D.C.—Today, House Small Business Committee Chairwoman Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) announced the five Committee Democratic Members who will serve as Subcommittee Chairs for the 116th Congress.
“I am proud to welcome our Subcommittee Chairs whose leadership and diverse backgrounds will be of great value to serving America’s small business sector,” said Chairwoman Velázquez. “In the 116th Congress, our Committee will work to ensure that America’s entrepreneurs, whether in rural areas, Main Streets, or cities, have the support they need to grow, innovate and create new jobs. I look forward to working with each of them to structure hearings and craft legislation to address the pressing issues facing small businesses.”
Below is a list of the Small Business Committee’s Subcommittee Chairs for the 116th Congress:
Rep. Abby Finkenauer (D-IA) will Chair the Subcommittee on Rural Development, Agriculture, Trade, and Entrepreneurship.

“I look forward to serving as Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Rural Development, Agriculture, Trade, and Entrepreneurship ensuring Iowans literally have a seat at the national table,” said Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer. “Small towns and rural communities embody many of our nation’s greatest strengths, and the Iowans in these communities deserve every opportunity to raise their families with good-paying jobs and a high quality of life. I look forward to bringing our Iowa values to the national conversation about how we move our economy forward by investing in agriculture, rural development, and innovative ideas.”

Rep. Andy Kim (D-NJ) will Chair the Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax, and Capital Access.

“I’m excited and eager to take on this leadership role fighting for small businesses and the communities they support,” said Rep. Andy Kim. “My highest priority is listening to small business owners across New Jersey’s Third District and helping them access the resources they need to grow and create jobs.”

Rep. Jared Golden (D-ME) will Chair the Subcommittee on Contracting and Infrastructure.

“I’m ready to put the Subcommittee on Contracting and Infrastructure to work for small businesses in Maine and across the country,” said Rep. Jared Golden. “Leading Contracting and Infrastructure, I’ll work to highlight how our lack of investment in infrastructure is hurting our businesses. I'll also fight to level the playing field for small businesses so they can better compete for federal contracts and make sure our taxpayer dollars are returned to Main Street instead of Wall Street.”

Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO) will Chair the Subcommittee on Innovation and Workforce Development.

“I look forward to leading the Innovation and Workforce Development Subcommittee and helping small businesses and start-ups reach their full potential,” said Rep. Jason Crow. “Small businesses aren’t just a boon to our economy, they are the backbone of our communities. We need to make sure our small businesses have access to the latest technology, the resources to hire and retain talented employees, and the support they need to address their unique challenges.”

Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA) will Chair the Subcommittee on Investigations, Oversight and Regulations.

“Oversight is one of Congress’s most important responsibilities,” said Rep. Judy Chu. “We need rigorous oversight to ensure policies are doing what they are supposed to and to shed light on the consequences of actions. This means looking at the Republican tax law to understand its actual impact on small business investment or the way the government shutdown impacted small employers. Small businesses drive our economy, and as Chair of the Oversight Subcommittee, I want to make sure they get the treatment they deserve.”

Each Subcommittee Chair was chosen through a selection process based on seniority, with the confirmation of Committee Democrats. Subcommittee Chairs must be ratified by the Full Committee.
