Ranking Member Velázquez on Record Breaking Small Business Applications

Washington, D.C.— Today, House Small Business Committee Ranking Member Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) released the following statement after the U.S. Census Bureau announced that Americans applied to start over 10 million small businesses during the first two years of the Biden Administration:

“Since the Biden administration began, President Biden and Democrats in Congress have made small business recovery a top priority. From pandemic aid to giving small businesses a role in rebuilding American infrastructure to leveling the playing field by making large corporation pay their fair share in taxes, Democrats have strived to help small businesses succeed. These efforts have paid off to the tune of 10.5 million new small business applications over the past two years, the greatest number on record.

“This is a remarkable achievement and proves what American entrepreneurs are capable of when they are given a chance to compete. Small firms are moving our economy forward, but we must continue working to make starting and running a business as easy as possible. During the year ahead, I will continue to work with my colleagues on the Committee to expand access to capital, ensure entrepreneurs get the training they need, and lower the costs of operating a successful small business.”
