Ranking Member Velázquez on July Jobs Report

Washington, D.C.— Today, Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY), Ranking Member of the House Small Business Committee, issued the following statement after the Labor Department released its July jobs report showing that nonfarm payroll employment increased by 187,000:

“Today, the Labor Department reported that our economy created another 187,000 jobs in July, bringing the total new jobs added under the Biden administration to 13.4 million. The July report revealed that we’re adding jobs steadily while unemployment has ticked down to a near-historic 3.5%, wages continue to grow, and labor force participation is at a multi-year high. Since President Biden took office, Democrats have made historic investments in the American economy through legislation like the Inflation Reduction Act and the American Rescue Plan. These numbers, along with our continued progress in the fight against inflation, shows that Democrats’ economic agenda is delivering for working families. While Republicans prioritize devastating spending reductions and tax cuts for the wealthy, Democrats are laser-focused on continuing to build the economy from the bottom up and the middle out.”
