Washington, D.C.— Today, Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY), Ranking Member of the House Small Business Committee, issued the following statement after the Labor Department released its September jobs report showing that nonfarm payroll employment increased by 336,000:
“Today’s jobs report blew away estimates and is more proof that the Biden administration and Congressional Democrats are building an economy that is delivering for working families. Last month, our country added a staggering 336,000 jobs, with another 119,000 in upward revisions for jobs added in July and August. This brings the total number of new jobs added under the Biden administration to over 14 million. Today’s report shows that our economy is strong and is moving forward at a steady pace. Overall, wages continue to rise, unemployment remains stable, and labor force participation remains high.
“Congress should be focused on building on this great economic progress. Unfortunately, Republican chaos has paralyzed the House and any attempts to address the issues facing everyday Americans. Despite GOP dysfunction, Democrats are laser-focused on continuing to build the economy from the bottom up and the middle out. It’s time for our colleagues on the other side of the aisle to join us.”
