Ranking Member Velázquez on February Jobs Report

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY), Ranking Member of the House Small Business Committee, issued the following statement after the Labor Department released its February jobs report showing that nonfarm payroll employment increased by 275,000:

“Last night, President Biden detailed our country’s incredible economic progress under his leadership. The February jobs report adds further evidence to the strength of our economy and labor market. Under President Biden, the U.S. economy has created nearly 15 million jobs, unemployment remains near historic lows, and we are progressing in our fight against inflation. A record 16 million Americans have also started small businesses, and small firms have created jobs at record rates.

“These outcomes were no accident. They resulted from landmark legislation like the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Inflation Reduction Act, and the CHIPS and Science Act that the President and Congressional Democrats fought so hard to pass.

“President Biden also laid out a vision for the future where the middle class comes first, and the biggest corporations and the wealthy no longer get all the breaks. Republicans have the opposite vision and are working to support large corporations while cutting the critical programs that Americans rely on. I look forward to continuing to work with the President and my Democratic colleagues to advance an agenda that always puts working families first.”
