Washington, D.C. –Today, Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY), Ranking Member of the House Small Business Committee, issued the following statement regarding subpoenas issued by committee Republicans to the Small Business Administration (SBA):
“Today, the House Small Business Committee issued a subpoena for the first time in over a decade. During my over 20 years as the top Democrat on this Committee, the Small Business Committee has prided itself on its bipartisanship and commitment to putting aside politics to help American entrepreneurs. Unfortunately, with today’s subpoenas, Republicans have rejected these principles to pursue a partisan inquiry.
“Throughout this Congress, Administrator Guzman and SBA have worked with Chairman Williams and his staff to be responsive to their concerns. Instead of focusing on political stunts sparked by content from social media provocateurs, we should address the challenges that small businesses face daily. The Democratic members of this Committee and I stand ready to work once the majority dispenses with the political games and chooses to prioritize the issues that entrepreneurs really care about.”
